My Predictions for Decorating Trends 2025
When selling a home, I always suggest going with neutrals; light and bright.
The home will appeal to more buyers and generally showcase your home
better. But if you aren’t selling, have fun with decorating by adding your own
touch and character to the home. Here are some decorating trends I see for 2025.
Colours
While there’s a time and place for muted pastels and neutrals, I love
seeing rich colors like earth tones, greens, chocolate browns, and rich
dark colours such as black. When using a dark colour such as black, it
is good to ground it with some brown accents. Other than your time,
there isn’t a huge financial output, so experiment…it might surprise
you. I recently did a black washroom with white and gold accents, and
I absolutely love it.
Any and all rooms can benefit from greenery- either real or artificial.
Be sure to put them in fun-coloured pots or bohemian woven baskets.
An easy way to play with pops of colour are to use them with accent
chairs, pillows with patterns/ designs, throws and ottomans. These are
easy items to change and use in different rooms of the home.
Pattern drenching is a new trend coming that I play around with throw
pillows when staging. I keep similar colours with different patterns.
Wallpaper can be another way to create this. Don’t forget Accent
chairs too! No need for matchy matchy…. A Mandy term…lol.
Design Trends
Coffee Bars are really becoming popular, and I even converted our
pantry to one…don’t worry we created a pantry in another location of
the home… I could never give up the storage space! This is an
excellent addition to someone that loves to host.
Finishing Touches
Finishing touches are finally getting the attention they deserve. A room
can easily be transformed by having bold and modern finishing
touches such as hardware on doors and cabinets. To maximize the
impact, include the door hinges as well. If you don’t have the budget
for a kitchen make-over, try just updating the cabinet handles and
faucets.
New lighting can dramatically transform a space by adding a
decorative touch as well as provide more lighting. It is important when
working in an open concept floor plan, to include all lighting fixtures for
a better flow.
Mirrors are also becoming more popular, especially the large black
frame mirrors to really enhance a space, whether its in a hallway,
bedroom or bathroom.
For the past few years, homeowners have been painting their interior
doors black to give it a nice bold contrast. This year I think we will see
different colours such has creams, greens and beige’s.
Lastly, I think we will continue to see fun wallpaper designs. One wall
is all that is needed to give character to a room or even half walls in a
high traffic area. If buying a pattern, be prepared to order additional
roles to allow you to line up the pattern correctly. Unfortunately, this
causes waste, but it could be used to line a drawer or I have even
covered the front drawers to a desk. You may just find a creative way
to use the scraps!
